Hello all! This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I'm looking for something similar to Felix as an alternative CAT tool. I use Trados, but have really enjoyed using Ryan Ginstrom's Felix for the past 10 years. I liked that I didn't have to convert Word/Excel/Powerpoint files into a proprietary format and back again after translating. Does anyone know of any similar CAT tools that allow you to work directly in Office files and register TMs and glossaries? And failing that, does anyone have any idea of how to extract text from Felix FTMs so I can create new TMs and glossaries? Thanks! [/quote]
Hi, looking at the felix website (blog) it seems development has been stopped and all the code was sent to MIT licenses. However, none of the download links are working.
Felix is new to me, it seems some SQL is used. Do you have non-sensitive actual examples we can look at to see how to convert them?
As an alternative, I'd recommend Wordfast Classic (MS Word only). Otherwise, Wordfast Anywhere allows you to switch to a Classic-like view.

Hi Philippe, thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely check them out. Unfortunately I don't have any non-sensitive examples, but after some experimenting I found out that Excel can open the FTMs and create an XML file automatically, so I was able to extract the text. I now just have to figure out how to automate stripping the formatting tags and I can then create SDLTMs for Trados. So all is not lost!
