If your source file is Word, it is quite easy to use the Advanced Find and Replace to insert full stops prior or after translation. Other files do similarly.

I wonder if you do not open all segments, how will you translate in a CAT software.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the source files and I won't be working with final target files either.

I know that in Trados Studio, for example, you can bulk insert source text into target segments, is there a similar feature in TW? That would help a bit, but I have not found it yet...

Post title: Contact the PM and request a new token

Hi there!

I had this problem today, and since the solution was quite simple I'm posting it here: after contacting the PM with a description of the problem, they sent me another token to the TM. After setting it up online, I opened the XLIFF Editor, and was able to connect successfully to Translation Workspace.

I don't know if this will *always* work, or if there's another way around it, but in case you have this annoying message, contact the PM and request a new token.

Hope it helps,
Patrícia

Hi,
my Trados 2011 is not working, I always get error messages, and maybe I'll have to reinstall it. In the meantime, how can I work on sdlxliff files? I see that, for example, Wordfast and CafeTran can open them, but then can I save them back in sdlxliff format?
Thank you!

Most tools on the market export sdlxliff directly, provided the source file is also in that format.

Thank you, now I'm working on CafeTran and it's working well with sdlxliff files, but there's no way to track changes in a review... Is there another cat tool which makes track changes possible?
Thank you!

Apart from OmegaT and Virtaal, I know of no CAT tool that can edit an SDLXLIFF file directly (which would be necessary for tracked changes), and neither OmegaT nor Virtaal have sufficiently complex SDLXLIFF filters so as to offer tracked changes inside the SDLXLIFF file. So, no: only Trados can do tracked changes in SDLXLIFF files.

Would be nice if CafeTran would support them too. At least reading them.

For tools that don't support Track changes, you can produce a quick comparison report in TQAuditor: if the agency/client is OK with that.

using Fluency Now. I usually receive an SDL Package. I enable the Track Changes feature. However, while correcting the target text, the changes are not saved to the TM. You can see them in the bilingual SDLXLIFF file. The options, when saving to the TM, are either to save without accepting the changes or to accept them and save the TM.
I deliver an SDL Return Package thereafter.

Hello!
I've just started working with TransTool, but I can't figure out how to search for terms and expressions in the project TM. So far, I can only search the fuzzies, the 100%, and the Glossary.
Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Extract and paste text in Google Translate Toolkit (AutoIt script)

Poster: Samuel Murray

Hello everyone

I have a client who uses Google Translate Toolkit again, and there is simply no easy way to extract text from it to translate in my CAT tool. I have written a set of simple AutoIt scripts that I have been able to use for Google Translate Toolkit:

The first script extracts the source text from GTT by simply clicking very fast on each line (you have to click on each line yourself and the press the shortcut key, and then the script writes that line to a text file for you). The third script reads the translation from a text file one line at a time and pastes it (so, you click in the target field, and press the shortcut key). Whenever you've pasted a line, the script moves to the next line in its memory.

I haven't encountered tags yet, so the scripts don't do tags yet. You have to exit the scripts by right-clicking their icons in the systray (since both the first and the third script use the same key combination for the shortcut key).

The construction/instruction thing made me laugh/cry though :-)
That's cute, but ... my client (agency) tells me that it's a 50% match, so they will pay me 50% instead of 100% --which I would get if the Translation Tool would count it face value as a 30% match...

Post title: Rian: Web-based CAT tool

If you are a translator and looking for easy to use CAT tool, I will recommend using RIAN.

Rian is very simple to use CAT tool. It has two distinct parts,

1) Management - In this, you can manage your projects, files. You can create a project based on your client or domain. You can upload, download source files. You can also assign work to other translators if required.

2) Editor - A grid-like (excel table like) interface where the text from the source file (source segments) are displayed on the left side and you have to write a translation on the right side. You also get suggestions immediately available from different Machine Translation engines like Google, Microsoft Bing, Translation Memory (previously translated segments) stored as your memory, Glossaries etc. This makes the translation job much easier. Also, it takes care of formatting without showing any tags. The editor also shows the repetition, which can be automatically translated if you translate the first instance of the same segment if the format is same.

There are many features in the Editor which makes it easier to do the translation. Visit the following video to get an introduction on Rian (How to use a CAT tool - RIAN.io)
